Community Forum on Obama’s Announcement on Deferred Action & Roots of Migration

Thursday, July 19th, 2012

Join The People’s Association of Workers and Immigrants (PAWIS East Bay) for a community forum and discussion about the new deferred action policy, current methods of adjusting one’s status in the U.S., and how this all ties into the larger migration pattern from the Philippines.

The new deferred action policy prevents DREAM Act eligible youth from being deported and will provide a way to apply for temporary work permits. An immigration lawyer from the Asian Law Caucus will provide information and answer questions including: eligibility requirements, what you can do to get ready to apply when the process is announced around mid-August, and how to protect yourself from misinformation.

In addition, we will be sharing our own migration stories and discussing the experiences and organizing of immigrants in the United States. Dr. Robyn Rodriguez, an Associate Professor of Asian American Studies at UC Davis, will be leading a discussion about the Philippine Labor Export Policy and how this ties in with the current immigration situation.
